Iron Ring

 

The Iron Ring is a ring worn by Canadian engineers as a symbol and reminder of the obligations and ethics associated with their profession. The ring is presented in a private ceremony called the Calling of an Engineer to engineering graduates. The ESSS manages the registration for Iron Ring for SFU Engineering students. Check below for the latest information regarding ring sizing and upcoming and postponed ceremonies.

Finding your Ring Size

 

During non-COVID-19 time you can come by the ESSS office to find your ring size for the little finger of your working hand. Alternatively, you can visit a local jewelry (respecting COVID-19 protocols) or do it at home using guides and charts online, such as the Ring Sizes website. Please note that Camp 5 uses the US/Canada measurement system, with ring sizes ranging from 1 to 12-1/2 in increments of 1/2 (i.e. 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, …, 12.0, 12.5). Please round your measurement up to the nearest size if necessary.

• The 2020 ceremony is postponed to mid-December to be held using online ceremonies, participation is required to receive your ring and certificate

• Camp 5 now as a website, camp5ironring.ca to provide updates and information (re-registration for the 2020 ceremonies will be here! Deadline near December 1)

• You can defer to the 2021 ceremonies or seek a refund if you can’t participate in the 2020 or 2021 ceremonies

• If you graduate in Fall 2020 or Spring 2021 you are eligible for the March 2021 ceremony which will be held online
